9 Models on the Pressure to Lose Weight and Body Image | The Models | Vogue

  • Am 23 Apr 2019 veröffentlicht
  • In the third episode of “The Models,” Vogue's four-part docu-series, runway stars get real about eating disorders, size discrimination, and the fashion’s fraught relationship with weight. Through candid conversations and never-before-shared stories, they describe what it’s like to challenge the status quo and why attaining a healthy body image is more important than booking a runway show.

if you're having issues about your body image, I need to tell you something. I'm not going to be that "Oh, You're so pretty and skinny!" person because I obviously haven't seen you in real life, But you know what I think is beautiful? Confidence. No, not everyone has to have it but one day you need to wake up and realize that not everyones going to love you. And it's ok. You are important. And life IS short. If I were you I wouldn't waste my time thinking about my body or my face. Put on something YOU like, go out smile, and just be yourself.

I think is so stupid that people still don't understand that that this career is for body types that are naturally skinny and struggle to gain weight not for normal or curvy body types...Why there are still people that starve themselves to become a body type they are not and people who are naturally skinny ashamed of their lack of curves ...

Well now that your'e aware of the situation... maybe it's time you start doing something about it.. like not photoshopping models/celebreties on covers and in editorials... like casting models with realistic bodies... like literally everything you do needs to change. Hate it how companies/brands exploit the whole body positive movement for gaining an audience. Before you speak clean your own mess. And also- the content in this video is really no surprise to anyone.
Everyone- especially people in the industry knew this was a problem for YEARS.
Ridiculous that you wake up now. Start by cleaning your own mess before speaking. Honestly this is so ridiculous.

Why are these models complaining, crying, victimizing themselves, etc?smh No one forced them to to want to be a model. Everyone knows(or should know before thinking about this job) - that a model is hired to be a hanger for clothes and or a canvas for make-up and everyone in the biz wants perfection. All these women are making it about themselves and sound totally unprofessional. I was a signed model back in my day and i never complained. I knew what my job entailed and what was expected of me and was grateful to be part of the whole scene. There is so much money involved in the fashion industry(designers, shows, print, mags, news papers, make-up, hair, etc and everyone wants perfection(if their clothes, etc are so called perfect then they want the model to represent equally or better to make their clothes, etc stand out more). Since there is no such thing as real perfection in anything - it makes the job of a model more difficult and frustrating but someone has to do it. A model is a living, breathing and walking mannequin and nothing more. If these women were able to keep their weight down and stay young - they all would still be modeling in a heart beat.

it's such a shame when vain, greedy and stupid women are not treated nicely. it's important to be nice towards the wealthy, the privileged people are privileged, because they must be loved and adored. they are not like us, they do not deserve to be abused. they are different, abusing them is wrong. I do love this series!
I actually met Paloma elsesser once in Brixton. She was with a crew with big cameras and I was an aspiring photographer at the time and nosey haha, I ran down to ask what they were filming. I didn't know who Paloma was then, but was blown away instantly with her beauty! and warmth! She offered me some advice as well as the really cool crew members accompanying her. One of which had just filmed a doc about Grills... ahaha anyways a few months later I saw her everywhere! I took it as a sign? ( if you believe in those kinds of things. ) Giving me the confidence to further my own modeling career, actively breaking industry molds and reaching for bigger and better campaigns.

You can consult a nutritionist and create a healthy, safe, and balanced diet and try to exercise more regularly if you can. But please be sure that you do this to become healthier for yourself, NOT to meet socially constructed standards for beauty. This video is slightly misleading. Although it does present a major issue in society and in the fashion industry, vogue does not seem to take responsibility for their contributions to these harmful expectations. The women on these videos are brave and generous to share their stories. But vogue can't be the to inspire change by simply talking about the problem they've helped create.

Hypocritical both ways, there is a huge demand for skinny and a huge ego to supply it. Now they are old and fat BUT have all made they way to the “cover” already , now they are advocating for change? And the new generation prepared to do the same BUT it is ok, as they long to be on the cover too.
It is right to say that where there is a demand there is a supply however in this case is necessary to stop the supply so the demand will end.
On the other hand there is an scary increase on teenage obesity, they are mistaken fat with beauty and both extremes ignoring Health.
When will people find a balance?
