Instead of steerable fins (that impart a rotation) how about 4 trim tabs perhaps 1cm wide and 2 cm high mounted, top hinged (maybe cut into) the fuselage and mounted between the now fixed fins? Individually controlled. Pushing the lower edge of one tab into the airflow would push the engine end sideways without imparting rotation.

Although engineering it is "feasible", Mark or anyone helping him would get into troubles with federal agencies the minute the video is uploaded on youtube because the technology behind it is restricted by US laws. It's not that hard to engineer that kind of stuff, but putting it on youtube as a "tutorial" is a no go by US laws.

To be honest guidance missile part could have worked if they had a small transponder on the missile and a beacon on the landing site. If you have a tracking-capable antenna on the missile you can move the fins as you want doesn't matter where you launch from. I used to design antennas for ground stations that can track satellites missiles etc.

Now I wonder, if somebody released a weather balloon on Venus, how high would it go? Assuming it was some magic balloon that would survive the high pressure, temperature and sulfuric acid. I know the gravity is ALMOST the same as Earth's. Venus has a gravitational acceleration of 8.87m/s^2 compared to Earth's 9.806. But the atmosphere at average ground level on Venus is 92x higher than sea level on earth, so any helium balloon would conceivably fly a lot higher and rise a lot faster. Actually you could even fill a balloon with regular earth air and it would float like helium on venus because its atmosphere is so dense. And then with how dense the atmosphere is and the different composition, the terminal velocity of the egg would be a lot slower near the ground. It would probably be relatively simple to work out the terminal velocity of a sphere if you could find data on the density of Venus' atmosphere vs altitude. Which would also be interesting to see. How thick its atmosphere gets the closer you get to the ground.
Then you can use bernoulli's principle to work out at what altitude the balloon would be at the same pressure as it would be at 100,000 feet above earth, which is where weather balloons usually pop. Then with bernoulli's principle you know the balloon would be expanded to the same size and hence it would pop just the same. Again I have to stress this is just a thought experiment involving a magic balloon that would survive all of the other conditions on venus. For all intents and purposes, everything would be and act exactly the same as on earth except for the atmospheric pressure around the balloon.

I feel like you are probably the only person to ever accidentally almost make a precision guided missile, let alone whilst trying to make an egg survive going to space. Well done, these are always so interesting and funny.
