This guy picked the best year to spend alone in a forest.Edit: I know he started in 2019, but he was working on it well through 2020 as well.
@Bollibompa : Covid started in 2019.
No he chopped off trees what about that??????
How much tax does the government get if you do this. Must be illegal.
Luckily he isn't subjy to the lumber prices in y us.

I had no intention of sitting through 2 hours of someone building a cabin, yet here I am. I couldn't stop watching. Well done!
Me Too!! Amazing 😄😍
The ambient sound makes me stay...
I thought the same thing with a guy making a small adobe brick hut, years later here I am, an addiction I will never shake 😋
대던하네요전 한국할머니73세다시 건강하게태어나면꼭 내손으로지어보고 싶어요!!!노무 부럽습니다~🤔🥰👍👍👍🥰❤
I love how you took the time to plant trees after cutting them down. Also, AMAZING job, this is so inspirational
All of the channels like this need to get together and make a village.
No, prolly not. Collectivism is the opposite of Volunteerism. Much in the same way that equity is the complete opposite of Equality.
And then a Town, and then a city and then... fuck!
Mrbeast could make that happen with his kinda money he could fly everyone in and stuff It would be great to see 😂
Man, what a pain it must've been to set up his camera every time he did something. This cabin probably took twice as long because he filmed it. Glad he did, I sure did enjoy watching it.
"One year Alone in Forest""first part filmed on phone, it gets better" Dude found a decent video camera lying around in the forest for him to grab? Such a lucky guy XD
@Maksymalny Bul but it’s still humane if done properly, instead of blanket banning it, put more effort into training civilians how to properly hunt?
@BEANSPOBBLES But irst you got to be great hunter
Dear Erik, I have been watching your advetures in renewing the old ways to make home and hearth. Also I appreciate when you share the animals around you and when you bathe in icey cold water! That is impressive. It is like wstching a wood sprite living in a fantasy forest! I enjoy it so much! I used to do such work in my early adultohood and watching you brings the joy of self reliance and the benefit of solitude back. I had a major assault on my body in a simple surgery gone horribly wrong with flesh eatig bacteria. My background of being hard driving is the only way I survived. I was not expected to live two weeks and it has been since 2005. I almost feel I can enjoy the feeling of lying back on the animal skin you use to watch the night fall. Your treks trough the snow on your skis with your unexpectedly cute and small companion dog reminds me of something I loved from childhood. I have no idea if in your sphere of knowledge you would know this, but it is an annual holiday classic most American children and adults enjoy. It is the stop action puppetry of Rankin And Bass's Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. At one point the group leaving "Santa's village to find their own way in the world" are met with a prospector looking for gold and sliver in the north. He has a dog team made up of a poodle, a few dogs like yours and even smaller ones like chijuajuas! It's the funniest thing to see and you sweet little red doggie trotting along at your overland skiing looked exactly like Yukon Cornelias's dog team! Thank you for hte joy of relase in watching you respect and enjoy nature while making responsible use of its bounty to live on the land. I hiope you can realize how uplifting this program you created is for so many people. Thank you for your drive, and ambition and for sharing it with the world. I hope you are able to gain some financial support with your ineraction on You Tube. You most certainly deserve it! God bless you and the family woh raised you to make such bold steps into self sufficiency. Your admiring You Tube friend, Lisa Chieco
I really liked the "appreciate nature" segment, it's always heart warming when people can respect the resources provided by our surroundings and give back a little for things we take advantage of
1st of all I am Extremely proud of you(I bet your Grandfather is very proud), Imagine a 21 yr old in this day and age doing this? How fantastic, my son is in his 30's married and was only interested in Technology and went to University for 6 yrs to do computer work etc.. Oh how I wish he would have taken an interest in the outdoors more and what you are doing and journeying through, How rewarding! I started to watch out of curiosity but a few min turned into a half hr due to lulling of the hammering and the clunk of the tree dropping in place and the beauty of where you are. Those moose were amazing, I love moose and find them gorgeous and fascinating with their long legs, I'm in Canada so we have lots of them here too. I loved how after you took so many trees down you would plant that many tree's back....The nice thing to is you could use all the chips you carved off the trees for fires etc.. What a handsome young man you are too and I hope your future wife really appreciates you and will enjoy a log cabin and gardening and the outdoors also.
Very impressive Erik .I enjoy watching.I can't imagine how much patience ,determination, perseverance and physical force necessary in order to build such log cabin. I suppose you are inherited all these traits from your dad or granddad probably.Your work enchant. All was done very skillfully. Throughout you are a genius at building. Wishing you well and success in your life.
this dude doesn't just build a cabin, he becomes physically buffer throughout the videos, he started off as a Kid, but ended up as a Man. mad respect !!!!
lol, who can't get buff from building that
@chromso yeah, that's not a good mindset but I don't think the op comment meant it that way,I think...
@Rommel they meant that being strong =/= being masculine
I think he grew another pair of balls by the end of the video..
2 birds with 1 stone. Heaps of deadlifts + you get your own log cabin xD a gym membership seems like such a waste after watching this
Amaizing skills put in action, you're grandparents and parents must be proud of you. Thank you for sharing with us. Cheers!
This man trained deadlifts for a whole year while also building a log cabin alone. Impressive
I love this. Watched both this video and the follow-up in the span of a few hours, could not stop watching. Great work, Erik. This is trully amazing. Thank you for sharing your journey, I particulary loved that there were no music or talking, just nature sounds. This made me very calm and I think it made the quote from you grandfather this much louder - most content on youtube is fast, loud, it needs to grab attention every second. Your video is just on point, it shows the time it takes, dedication, the sheer amount of work, and you just can't stop watching not because it uses attention grabbing techniqes, but because it IS JUST SO GOD DAMN GOOD.Also, I must say I'm so impressed by your axe throwing!
This was amazing. It was really great to see you grow along with the project. Your commitment to honoring the old ways is something all of us, old and young, can gain inspiration from. Great work.
I'm 30 seconds in....why do I feel like I'm about to stick around for the entire 2 hours!? Be right back, gonna get some popcorn
*20 bucks says this guy walks through the camera and hands erik some popcorn aswell*
What are the chances
@Billy Smith hello
What a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Thank you Erik for taking us all on this journey with you. LOVED the little 'triumphant' jig you did - I laughed out loud. This is truly amazing sir, and what's more is you labored over innumerable hours of dreaming, planning, seeking, procuring, and realizing, and then shared it freely with the world. Not something most people would do, and especially not at such a young age. Thank you also for allowing your audience to 'meet' your family. They are obviously quality human beings as are you, and they must be so proud of you. I pray the Lord continue to keep you through this journey Erik. Cheers!
This was the best thing I've ever seen, ever. First off congratulations on having the skill and will to make it happen. I'm from Northern Michigan, USA, and it looks very similar to your forests. Dense. Do you get morels growing there in spring time also? I could live in woods if I magically had an endless supply of morel mushrooms 🤠
Dear Erik, It's fascinating how skillfully you can handle your axes. I like watching your video. It would be a dream for me to build a log house one day. Greetings from Germany. Take care and all the best to you! Peter
Never heard a sound more satisfying than of these logs falling exactly into position on top of the wall!
This is LITERALLY unbelievable the effort and determination into not only making an entire log cabin from scratch with primitive materials but filming and editing like he was a videographer and he wasn't even a builder bruh. my man grew a mustache got all buff and probably broke his back bending over this shit to fulfill his dreams. Big props to this guy, I haven't looked if u have yet but I at least would be interested in hearing u talk about this experience and your life and mind during this time.
@Diana Fossi lol that's the definition of "good with his hands" so no you're probably not the only one that find this attractive
Am I the only one who finds this attractive?🙊
You see the cabin Your filled with DETERMINATION ... undertale prefrence c:
@Planet Earth maybe because the comment was posted only 6 hours ago and you also posted your comment early lol? This just went viral
@Erik Grankvist yeah I'm pretty sure they didn't have a choke line before but you did do something amazing and extremely hard to do
Inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing this. My kids ( 7 and 4) watched this in installments together, and they were interested the whole time - this says something about the relevancy of building one's own shelter, even if it is transmitted by DEclips. Your skills and work are truly impressive and my kids no aspire to a much higher level of axe-skills than before!
Very cool. One thing I was taught by professional log home builders is to set a 4 point hoisting system. One post at each corner then you can use block and tackle pulley system to hoist up the logs. Obviously put the posts on the inside corners and attach the pulleys before erecting them. Looking forward to seeing the final home.
Dang, this dude went from average woodsman to pioneer over the course of the video. You can see his strategy evolve throughout too.
I immensely enjoyed watching this. It was relaxing, educational and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your hard work with us. God bless.
The fact that this man planted back trees after cutting all those down is amazing
@jv S Actually...you have too options,, , either plant new trees or save seed pines (spruce etc) to pollinate cones.🌲🕸🔅
@Legit Thrower , off course it is.
i think reforestation is a common practice unless youre an illegal logger
This is a common and compulsory practise throughout the Nordic countries.
I have never seen such an example of determination, perseverance, hard work, craftmanship and love. I enjoyed every minute of this video, mesmerized by your work. Greetings from Argentina.
Hello Erik, I have a question for you. How did you attach the first row of trunks to the foundation? Did you screw the trunks to the foundation? I always ask myself how the house is fixed when you put it on a point foundation. I would be very happy to receive feedback from you. Thanks very much.
I enjoy watching, it feels like I don't want this to end at all. Very satisfying. Good job Erik!
Your work is admirable, solid, from the soul. Slow and steady ALWAYS wins the race, you proved that beyond a doubt. Your work is incredible, Erik, I admire you.
Next: building a longboat and raiding England like our ancestors.
I'm English and I am in no doubt this young man could single-handedly take over England and the rest of the UK for that matter. To be honest, it might be better over here with him in charge. It seems like he has his priorities right :)
@Matt was that supposed to mean something I’m not religious,
@james hallam and then this - “There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth when ye shall see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the Kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.”
@BLxCK VOiD do you have any idea what vikings did to scotland? iona, alt clud, orkney.... they dont like them so much!
Still in the process of watching this but mad respect to you for doing this solo and in the way that you have done this. Even deeper respect for replanting the tree saplings.
Amazing work Erik, ive built a small cabin in Northern Canada by hand but not to the level your doing here, i used chainsaws and a portable mill, this is exceptional, you are truly grasping the effort and hard work our forefathers endured!!! Its amazing work, I love that you started out with bare basic tools and as you got going you acquired a new tool from time to time. I dont know if your other viewers have priced out some of these specialty hand tools but he could have easily bought a chainsaw and portable saw mill for the money Erik invested in these hand tools, but they only require his hard work to run, and thats amazing! I am looking to build an XL log lodge on an 1100 acre non serviced bush lot in northern canada over the next 5 years so I have been watching these cabin builds to get some ideas of how we will exactly do it as we can not get cranes or equipment back to where we are building, your video helped out a lot, thanks. I have watched another video of one man building a fairly large log cabin and how he built these crude lifting structures which was amazing to see as well as inspiring, but your truly doing this on your own and by hand, which no one else ive seen has recorded this process!
PARABÉNS! SOU DO BRASIL E ENCANTADO COM TUA FORMA DE VIDA
I thought to myself, "Man it would be nice to lay on top of all those finished logs." (Next scene: Drone shot of Erik laying on top of finished logs) Read my mind haha. You're a true inspiration man! Keep it up!
hahaaaa yes dude
@Clay Don't try to explain to the guy... He is a Maple Leafs fan the poor dude
It will be cool)
This is my second time viewing this awesome display of relentless dedication and conscientiousness (a personality trait on the five factor model of personality which is akin to hard work and ensuring a single task or few tasks are completed before undertaking new ones), the first time I watched it I believe was not long after it was originally uploaded-a few months into 2021 if I recall. Anyways overall this is very inspiring for me, not in regards to doing something similar because I don't think I would be able to pull off a feat as detail-oriented and precise as this but more so in a different domain and niche I have gravitated towards. Thank you for the time commitment you made in documenting the entire process for the internet to gander at!
What a beautiful log house you build and the hard work you put in. Very inspiring Erik.
It is just amazing in watching you build log cabin in how you made all point of the log to conceive each other ....... I wish I was able to do this at my young age .... The air must be so nice out their ..... I had watch the episode from the window to the roof and watch the food storge and floor tongue groove.... I just like watching you it is so well done ....... But I live upstate New York, Syracuse My Name Is Ira Lord
Fun fact for those who don't speak swedish: his surname "Grankvist" literally translates to "spruce twig"
It's funny when people match their names ✨😁
Twig is the last word I would use to describe Him.
@Richard watz gran is spruce. look it up
@Richard watz Nah dude If his name was tallgren that Would be correct. Spruce is the english translation of Gran and Twig is the english word for kvist.
@Richard watz No, pine is "tall", branch is "gren". Spruce is "gran" ( fir is a more generic name for both pine and spruce), twig is "kvist"...get your facts straight man.
Well, your grandfather must’ve started teaching you when you were but a toddler! Amazing skill… you must have dozens of axes, adzes and such… and of course it helps when you’ve got a place to build on. You can probably tell I’m green with envy ;-) Keep up the good work! And thank you for sharing. Maybe my nieces and nephews will benefit from watching you build the dream. You rock!
Such an expert with tools: adze, axe, auger, draw shave etc. Hats off to you young man! How did you keep yourself warm inside the cabin when had you finished it?
I love your work man. Was a joy to watch and thank you for sharing your skills. I really like your style and if ever in Australia should get in touch. Warm regards, Louis.
I have to add something here:You amaze me everytime I watch you on DEclips. Your parents must think their in heaven.I also love your handmade tools.Great package 😉
Featured on my homepage 2021, I have a hunch i'm not alone with this video..thats how DEclips works
And it is amazingly cathartic and satisfying!
How else does a guy living in the woods get you to watch his progress videos?
these kinds of comments are so annoying.
@Pedro Dipp Not all, I try to avoid the algorithym and make a conscious choice to watch the people I follow, it does take a few more clicks on the mouse but it is the way to go. I also believe this thread is off topic to the channel content, but I see it a lot more now.
Forests where the trees are all around the same height is a past deforestation issue so clearing of trees and planting new ones will be really beneficial to its restoration. Especially just having you in that area compared to an ever growing community. This is some real human stuff, I love it!
C'est incroyable et honorable Erik, Bravo !
I've dreamed about doing something like this for a long time. Amazing experience
I would have loved to have a go at this myself while I was still in my prime, had I been as knowledgeable as you. Very impressive.
„Dad who build that house?“ „Your Grandfather did. You can watch it on DEclips.“
@Senn Uijtdehage no - youtube will last foreverrrrrr!
@Patriotic potato cool
@zxrt haha yes very cool , at least I think so
@Patriotic potato cool?
@K Allen tornadohunter006 the tractor is just that he didn’t have to walk Fuqing miles every time he wants to move a log . Same principle though and I’m sure they had some kind of alternative like hard mud mix or something
The drone shots at 39.00 were spectacular. Thanks. Since drones are relatively new, I NEVER get tired of them. You feel like you are flying or floating.
This is extraordinary. I am AMAZED at your resourcefullness ... and strength to split boulders and to lift and place them. Wow!
My 84 years old father and 77 years old mother absolutely adores you and what you have made.
This young man knows his stuff !Best cabin build I've seen on DEclips !
Next Video: *"Building a Wooden Ship to raid England like our forefathers"*
@Szakacs Attila Norwegians settled the Faroes and Iceland. Icelanders settled GreenlandAll 4 locations became Danish possessions, of which two later regained independence. Nominally
they should the '' behind the scene shots'', with the crew using chain saws, forklifts, cranes and the likes... hahaha....
Amazing! Didn't have time to watch all video, but will do it for sure. I'm curious- is this a pine tree, and shouldn't wood be dried before building a cabin? Or it is not necessary?
Это прекрасно. Спасибо!
Amazing talent and skills. The precision of his axemanship is truly outstanding. An amazing story. Wish I can join your experience but i'll probably wilt within a few days. 😄
Just realized he had to set the camera up for all those shots of him walking around in the woods and then go all the way back and grab the camera just to give us a good clip. Must’ve taken forever
Bravo! great endeavor! lucky he has all d vehicles, d tools or equipment needed to help in this amazing i should call, work of art! kudos! love it!!!
maybe he was only doing a quick walk to drop something back and left it recording
Sounds like you are talking about Les Stroud from Survivorman.
Bravo. Just incredible. Enjoy jour cabin and the memories you willl always have of building it. You deserve it.
Amazing video! Very skillfully made, lots of patience had to be involved and planning as well! Respect for how much physical strength was needed for this too!
Amazing work Erik, I skimmed through it if I’m honest… but I caught maybe another person @ 1:52:42 please validate! Thanks, very inspiring! I also wondered… what significant dreams you might’ve had during this process?
Muy buen video , excelente escuela para las personas entendidas en el tema de la construcción.Muchas gracias Erik .😘😘😘
The way Erik has physically changed because of this is pretty cool to see
Imagine you and a group of strangers just going together and building a little settlement together like this
We literally watched his muscles grow...
Ngl, I would totally do something like this to gain some muscle, even if it's just a tone. And it would be nice to get away for a while.
Mate went from looking like a twig to a full blown log in the course of building this
I was looking for this comment so I didn’t repeat anybody - he 100% beefed up
Do you plan to live here long term? Would love to build a cabin myself and just live out in woods. This looks well done!
Watching this makes my muscles hurt :p Godt jobbet Erik, imponert! :o
32+million views! That says more than my humble words could say. What you've accomplished at your age, with no experience, is AMAZING! 👍🙏🏼
Watching this wonderful video I became calm, silent and HAPPY ! And I adore nature, your skills and your willpower !
this man just won my respect when he planted back those trees
@DarySparta nvm i just Fffff ok chill i am just going to f delete my comment
@DarySparta tf is civilizied my comment is a swede meme. 😂
@Uxo either you're civilised or you're not a true swede.
@David Claverie ,...you didn't push far enough, if you notice he did not plant palm trees,...
If I push the raisonning, you can kill a man , if you make a baby ?
This was amazing! What an effort! Also wish your Cavalier made more of an appearance, such beautiful dogs, I have a Ruby Cav myself
It’s amazing how young he is and very knowledgeable of what he is set out to do. That’s impressive!!!! 👍👍👍
I loved watching this video, and his care, skill, and craftsmanship with only using hand tools is very impressive. But he started in Feb. 2019 and a year and a half later, in August 2020 he hasn't yet started on the roof? That doesn't sound like a very viable plan unless you're pursuing it as a hobby, which I guess he is (although for the first four months or so he was still in high school, so presumably he could only work on it part-time).
That was alot of hard work! I enjoyed seeing your growth though physical and in your techniques of chopping, hauling, positioning, the logs and branches. It seemed like certain things got easier to do over time.😁👏🏽 impress video overall 👏🏽
I’m more impressed that he did all that in under two hours. What a guy 👍🏼

I’m curious, how did you eat? Did you hunt your own food, or did you have help? What an incredible experience you have given yourself, I am truly jealous, but very happy to see what, and how you did all of this! You are a true inspiration to everyone who watches this, thank you! And greetings from California! 🙏🙏🙌🙌💪💪🤟🤙👍
Such a fascinating process. Wonderful how you studied and learned on your own.
At the beginning of the video:"TWO HOURS. Who will be watching all this?"Two hours later:"Me, apparently."Great video. Thank you, Erik.
I did 🙄🙄🙄✌️but did a speedy Gonzales at points. Lads a legend💪🏼
Didn’t even realize it was 2 hours until I got to this comment
It's a movie
I live in the city but my heart calls for the wild.... If only I could get some land to do this I would. Make my own community be beautiful
That wood looks so satisfying to work on, just perfect!
Incredible work. Did you buy the land or was it owned by you or the family already?
A True enjoyment watching this craftsmanship, well done & thanks for sharing Erik 👍
Logs don’t give him splinters, this guy gives the logs splinters.
RulezzX - sorry
Can i seriously walk into a comments section without people fighting?
Jock kristintums as did we
@っごるごんぞーら no i was just implying that it was joke.
@Jock kristintums it means yo a kid?
Erik, you should be very proud of your accomplishments, beautiful job.
Absolutely amazed at the skill some people have. Very impressed, even if I am terrified at the lack of eye protection.
This is incredible work. Great job and well done.
Thank you for this video, this is amazing! Very knowledgeable, nice camera angles, fun editing, perfect video!
This man is taking self-isolation to a whole new level.
Phil Robertson has enters the chat
I did not look for this video, but got recommended by DEclips.A great undertaking, immense commitment and tons of patience! Great (and hard) work!I do have one question or remark - shouldn't the towles/pegs be cut a bit shorter, not flush with the logs? As the logs dry and shrink, the pegs will not shrink as much in the same direction. This could cause them to start lifting the logs and creating gaps in between...I hope this will not happen in Your case, but as I spent my childhood helping my father build log cabins, I remember him telling me that :)
Thank you for sharing, your a good carpenter! Loved to see the solution to get the logs up higher✊ do you have a list of all your tools? Cheers ERIK!
You sir, have become my new hero. Such fantastic work and videos. I salute you!
Красивые родители. Круто, когда хочется прислушиваться к дедушке и бабушке, а не просто терпеть их.
The only thing stronger than this guy's back, is his will for this cabin to exist.
Your ignorance about how to properly use commas is also stronger than his back.
Just like …Shawn James and he is up to 3 million views…He has a really cute daughter…
Have you seen the My Self Reliance channel? Now that guy's back is strong!
@Rostislav Svoboda ,yep. a good weight lifting belt would do wonders.
I realy appreciate all the hard work that you did and the time that you spent and the patience you have for build all thatCongrats broo 👏👏👏👏👏
Grew up on a farm in far north western Ontario, Canada. Had all those tools in the shop (the original homesteader's log cabin) though we never had any use for them, all supplanted by more effective hand tool, and eventually the chain saw.
Very impressive man. If only i had a fraction of the commitment this dude has. Very great accomplishment.
Amazing craftsmanship. Well done 👍
