- If we aren't allowed to freely use the intellectual property of others in our own expressions then how can we express anything at all?
What we express is made out of everything we see or hear, or experience, e.t.c... (there's nothing new under the sun) and it is our own personal taste that makes us all unique and allows us to create "new" things (made out of other things) and be "original".
Yes, ironically, our originality comes from copying the parts that we like best from other people.
But if you take away the possibility of copying others, then you also take away the opportunity to express, create and be original. And if we can't be original then we may as well all be a copy of the same expressionless robot, following orders and complying, without freedom.
What is article 11 and 13?
For those of you who don't yet know, here is some information:
Here's an explanation (by Philip DeFranco): declips.net/video/gYU77Qqvy-U/video.html
Here's the full amended text of the entire European union directive on copyright in the digital single market:
What can be done to stop article 13 now?
Sign a petition:
Reach out to your national MEPs in your own language, by phone, email or tweet through our tools, to help to get their attention on this issue, and encourage them to push back and delete Article 13 before it’s too late.
Not all MEPs are supportive of the EP’s direction on Article 13, many others are not even aware of what’s going on because they are not sitting in the key Committees. Therefore, not all is lost yet, and your voice can have a real impact.
It is also important that they reach out to their colleagues and convince them to join this fight!
