To everyone getting mad about them not using the technical terms, correct me if im wrong please, but these are the SLANG terms they use for the show and around other people that know it. Also, free style and streetdance aren't any of their main categories of dance. :) Again please correct me if im wrong but politely please

I'm suprised that they didin't even put stuff like spotting in here. That is a dance term! I am a dancer and i don't know half of these things.

I do love that Derek went for more of a jive kick ball change. I do hip-hop so it's weird to see a diffirent version of it. It also really shows that he is more of a ballroom dancer.

WACK. Super wack. If you don't know that Boogaloo is a specific style of poppin, that pop n lock ISN'T EVEN A THING (the dance style is LOCKING and poppin is a completely different dance style. By the way, Neyo, your technique is terrible), a DIP is actually what it's called, and that b-boying is actually the original term for breakdancing, don't try and act like you know. That show has never given true credit to original street styles, and this proves it right here. Not to mention when you didn't even get Hilty and Bosch past the preliminary round.

  • Rauly Duenas
Rauly Duenas Vor 24 Tage +6

There is No Such thing as POP LOCK!
"Popping" is Contracting your muscles to the beat in rhythm. It's been around since the early/mid 70s. Along with other West Coast Funk styles.
"Locking" was created by Don Campbell AKA Don Campbellock. And that was developed by him in the late 60s/ esrly 70s along with the famous dance group "The Lockers." They are TWO separate Dances!
Boogaloo was created by Sam Solomon AKA Boogaloo Sam in Fresno California. It is not the same as Popping. Breaking AKA b-boying and b-girling was developed in the early 70s on the East Coast. Not to be confused with West Coast Funk Styles like popping, Boogaloo, locking, and even Bay Area Strutting.
Y'all (WOD judges) need to do your homework because you're influencing too many people with the WRONG information.

Should have kept the official dance STYLE NAMES OUT of this NONSENSE. They just mocked and ridiculed on various cultures, totally insulting thousands, maybe millions of dancers (boogaloo-ers, poppers, lockers, bboys/bgirls, krumpers, capoeira practicioners) with this crap. People look up to them, so, yes, it's important to state this disapproval. Very irresponsible and not in the slightest was this CUTE!! :(

@Lynn Ke More than one meaning to what? I know several people throughout the US who participate in the ballroom dance scene (vogue, waacking) and ALL of them say it has never been called anything other than a DIP. In terms of "popping and locking" there is a hip hop party dance called the "pop n lock" but that is a HIP HOP move, and the movements that Neyo demonstrated looked more like a sad attempt at Locking than anything else. He also said its part of breaking which it is not. Overall they are so wrong about so many things and it is a shame that they are on this popular public platform spreading misinformation.
