is NASA lying to us ? I mean, they have to justify the vast amount of money they spend every year in some way, but the thing is that they don't. The quality of the videos, images and the information they offer to us is really poor. I guess they are trying to hide something. Why ? cmon NASA, tell us the truth. :) I think the big secret is the Antartica, and they know that! cmon guys, share your knowledge to the people and tell us the truth :) peace and love.

Looks to me like all we need to do is green up the deserts in Africa, the Western United States and the Middle East. That should take up the excess CO2. I still maintain that CO1 and ocean dumping are far larger environmental problems, though. I also do not think carbon taxing or A Green New Deal are proper solutions. The observant among us may have noticed that the first purple appears in the East, then blows over North America. Looks like we need to get China and Russia on board. Or just introduce large scale agriculture into the driest parts of the world. I suggest desalination plants along the coasts of Africa, California and the Middle East. Pipe water through the mountain ranges and get water into the ground in the deserts. That'll sink both CO2 and excess sea water into the ground, as well as allowing us to remove lead and mercury from the oceans. We totally have the technological capability to do this, and far more, but nobody wants to cuz $$$

Maybe it's like water finding its level. Maybe the edge of space is so hungry for matter and energy that it just sucks it up like a sponge. And as the universe grows, the matter at the edge gets thinner. There is not as much material to fill the void, so it expands faster to compensate. Maybe?

I had a dream a few nights ago that I was looking out my bedroom window and saw this asteroid enter the atmosphere in the southwest. It was headed east at incredible speed. I saw a massive explosion where it entered the atmosphere, and it had a trail of smoke and fire. It exited the atmosphere again, but began an elliptical orbit around the earth going in and out of earth’s atmosphere over and over again. At one point it grazed the ground, and caused a massive wave of destruction across the ground. At least it looked like this astroid, with its unique cigar shape, but in my mind it was actually the FT3 astroid which is supposed to come close to earth next month.

Hold on, now. Gravity is stronger than DE, except where mass is really far away, like between galaxies. So then, within galaxies space may be expanding, but gravity is keeping both the masses themselves (the Earth, say) intact, as well as the distances between masses in our galaxy, (e.g. Earth's orbit). Yes? Alternately, is there any measurement of how far our galaxy has expanded? I don't recall seeing one. In any case, where's the point where DE overcomes G in our galaxy, and how has that changed, if at all? (In the "local group", say)? Is alpha Centauri supposed to eventually become so far away, its light will take too long to reach us vs. DE? Then it must be drifting away right now, shouldn't it? So, how fast? Anybody know of a theory that will allow the story of DE overpowering G to be explained step-by-step? What about overcoming the Strong Force? Let's see the details. The Big Rip sounds fishy to me. I don't pretend to be smarter than cosmologists; my suspicion is that this is some artifact of the popular press' need for drama.

Sad to say if any of these are missing or not up to specs, then we cannot live there...but then again, maybe something else can which is why these planets must be protected from rapatious beings such as ourselves...

    • Joshua Shaw
      Joshua Shaw Vor Tag

Good questions Will. I'm sure there is not enough data to speak to most of them, but they did sort-of answer one at 0:43. The relationship between mass and gravitational attraction suggests that it will be much greater than 1G, but not a full 8G at the surface (unless the planet is the same size as earth but 8 times the density).

Is the redshift the same for all directions from earth? Or is there a spherical variation as you measure around the globe? If the redshift as a function of distance is the same in all directions, then that would put earth dead center of the expansion. There are a lot of unanswered questions, and unquestioned answers.

Seems like a huge waste of money, since there are no plans to colonize space on a grand scale. It might make more sense if the planet got off of a war footing and got onto a space exploration footing, but I don't see this ever happening. I even doubt humans will ever get to Mars. There's no way to get back and from what I heard, no one would survive there for long. And I know NASA budget is .05% of the US total budget, but still, what is the point?
